RNLT© Milano, located in the stylish Brera district in the heart of the city, has become the hub for meetings organized by the brand, bringing together renowned designers and architects as well as discussions on the key trends in contemporary design. Inside, the R17 electric restomod show car was presented for the first time in Italy during a press meeting with the design team of the diamond brand and its designer, Ora ìto.
According to Laurens Van den Acker, Director of Design at Renault Group, Renault’s design strategy is focused on reviving legends while creating the legends of tomorrow. Since 2021, Renault has introduced various creative and exclusive projects that reinterpret the brand’s extraordinary heritage, filled with iconic models that are part of pop culture. These projects showcase the brand’s ability to blend tradition, design, and innovation, creating an exceptional field of expression for contemporary designers.
Renault has, therefore, turned to the imaginative creativity of Ora ìto, one of the most avant-garde designers of his generation, to reinvent the look of the Renault 17, offering a bold and modern perspective on this historical model while remaining true to the spirit of the brand.
“Reinterpreting a legendary car like the Renault 17 and expressing my vision to transform it into a sculpture that reflects me was a particularly passionate challenge I shared with Renault. We worked with Sandeep (Bhambra) and Gilles (Vidal) on a retro-futuristic theme, almost cinematic. I wanted to adorn the Renault 17 with a second skin to elevate it and bring it into our times, interpreting it with my own language: fluidity, dynamism, rationality, and my signature concept of ‘simplexity’. I aimed to simplify complex elements,” Ora ìto stated.
