ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The extension of the unique role to the healthcare management of Aifa, approved through an amendment, will allow the Agency to prevent the loss of high-profile professionals while ensuring strong appeal as it seeks to enhance its workforce.” This is how Robert Nisticò, President of the Italian Medicines Agency, commented on the approval of the unique healthcare role outlined in the Budget Law.
In light of the existing absolute incompatibilities within the Agency, this regulation permits the healthcare management of Aifa to receive the exclusivity allowance, just like their colleagues working in the National Health Service and the Ministry of Health.
“This is a significant step forward in improving the efficiency of the Agency,” Nisticò continued, “achieved thanks to the understanding of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and particularly the Department of the General Accounting Office, which recognized the strategic importance of Aifa in regulating a market valued at 50 billion through its decisions on drug pricing and reimbursement. The upcoming implementation of the European Regulation on health technology assessment (HTA) will require even greater effort from Aifa’s personnel and management, yet it will also yield higher revenues for the services rendered,” he noted. The Aifa president expressed gratitude to “the Minister of Health for the attention given, as well as to the Government, the Legislative Office of the Economy, and the Department of the General Accounting Office for their consideration and invaluable technical support.”
