ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Fulco Pratesi, who turned 90 five months ago, the founder of Wwf Italia and a trailblazer of the environmental movement in Italy, passed away today in Rome. This was announced by Wwf, which “mourns the loss of its founding father and extends heartfelt condolences to the Pratesi family: his children Isabella, Carlo Alberto, Francesco, and Olympia, along with all his grandchildren.”
Born in Rome in 1934, Fulco Pratesi was an architect, journalist, author, and illustrator, who founded Wwf Italia and served as its long-time president. He was a living example of active ecologism and served as a mentor to an entire generation of naturalists. He was also a member of Parliament from 1995 to 1997 with the Greens. In 2020, the University of Palermo awarded him an Honorary Degree in Biodiversity and Environmental Biology. He held the position of honorary president of Wwf Italia and was the chief editor of the historic magazine Panda since its inception. His contributions were crucial in defining and passing essential laws for the protection of Italy’s nature, including Law 157 on wildlife and the parks law of 1991.
“His personal efforts and those through the Panda association were fundamental for the protection of nature in Italy. Today, alongside the entire Wwf community, I feel an immense void: we have lost a father and an irreplaceable source of wisdom. We bid him farewell with deep emotions and profound sorrow, but also with one certainty: Wwf will continue to honor his memory every day, pursuing his ideals with conviction.
Fulco will always be with us,” commented Luciano Di Tizio, president of Wwf Italia.
