Giansanti: “Uniting in the EU Against Aggressive Trade Policies”

SATURNIA (GROSSETO) (ITALPRESS) – “We need to consider how to create a unified approach to respond to the aggressive trade policies directed at the European Union: new geopolitical scenarios, rising production costs, and the disruptive effects of climate change threaten our sector. There is a need for greater pragmatism in Europe, contrary to what has been done so far, to protect the income capabilities of businesses. It is time to define a common strategy; a single fund for each member state would spell the end of the EU,” said Massimiliano Giansanti, president of Confagricoltura, during today’s session of the Forum in Masseria – ‘Companies are asking the government,’ an economic and political review organized by Bruno Vespa.
The president participated in the Panel “Prospects for the European agri-food sector: towards a technological revolution,” sharing his insights on the challenges and opportunities facing the European, as well as national, agri-food sector, with a focus on the technological innovations transforming the agricultural landscape, while also addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
“The EU Commission is correcting the course set by the Green Deal,” Giansanti continued, emphasizing that there must be rules, provided they are pragmatic, and that an impractical path could lead Italy out of the market. “We have seen disastrous climatic effects for agricultural entrepreneurs; it is right to intervene to protect the environment, but with concrete solutions that do not hinder the competitiveness of businesses,” Giansanti concluded.
The panel also featured contributions from Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry; Natalia Bobba, President of the National Rice Authority; Giovanni Galimberti, President of the European Patent Lawyers Association; and Francesco Minotti, CEO of Mediocredito Centrale.
