ROMA (ìITALPRESS) – Stellantis and Dongfeng Group have today announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at expanding their 34-year partnership through the joint production of Peugeot and Jeep vehicles in China, targeted to both the domestic market and exports to other regions. Stellantis and Dongfeng Group have also entered into a non-binding strategic MoU to further strengthen their collaboration, leveraging their respective scales, competencies, and research and development capabilities in the industry. Under the agreement signed today, subject to obtaining necessary approvals and finalizing relevant implementation agreements, the joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile Co., Ltd (“DPCA”) is expected to start producing initially two new energy vehicles (NEV) branded Peugeot at its Wuhan plant starting in 2027. The models will showcase the new design identity inspired by the concept cars unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
These models are intended for the Chinese market and export to global markets, falling within Peugeot’s international growth plan. Additionally, starting in 2027, the plan includes launching production of two NEV SUVs under the Jeep brand at the DPCA facility in Wuhan, aimed at global markets. Capitalizing on favorable automotive industry policies in Hubei province and the municipality of Wuhan, the project entails an overall investment exceeding 8 billion Chinese yuan (around 1 billion euros), with Stellantis expected to contribute approximately 130 million euros. “With over 30 years of historical collaboration and shared automotive expertise, Stellantis and Dongfeng are poised to further leverage their respective strengths and introduce completely new vehicles equipped with cutting-edge electric technologies through brands that customers globally love and trust,” stated Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis. “We look forward to this project with confidence and to a collaboration that is destined to strengthen further over time.”
“Dongfeng Motor has always considered the transformation and revitalization of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile Co., Ltd. (DPCA) a fundamental strategic priority, fully supporting and promoting its sustainable development. With the signing of this strategic cooperation, thanks to the integration of the industrial strengths of Hubei province, the benefits of Stellantis’ global presence, and Dongfeng’s advanced technologies in the field of smart electric vehicles, a new path based on complementary synergies and shared advantages opens for all parties involved. This will undoubtedly give a strong boost to the transformation process of DPCA,” said Qing YANG, Chairman of Dongfeng Group. The project’s implementation is subject to signing the relevant implementation agreements, including economic and operational principles, as well as meeting customary conditions and obtaining necessary approvals.
