“We never want to witness incidents like Saturday afternoon again, but to prevent this from happening requires a firm commitment from institutions and law enforcement to ensure the complete safety of entrepreneurs and citizens in Pontedera. Otherwise, this dangerous trend will only worsen.” This is the renewed appeal from Federico Pieragnoli, General Director of Confcommercio Province of Pisa following the assault on the employees of the Marionnaud store.

“I hope that up until now there hasn’t been a willingness to tackle the problem with the necessary firmness, because if the measures implemented so far are inadequate, the situation would be even more concerning. It’s unacceptable for merchants and workers to live in a constant and persistent state of danger. This is yet another demonstration of a situation that has spiraled out of control and must be addressed immediately with concrete and effective actions from those responsible for ensuring safety.”

Lorenzo Nuti, president of Confcommercio Pontedera

“For over a year, violence, theft, and vandalism have indiscriminately affected both entrepreneurs and citizens; we have reached a breaking point,” said Lorenzo Nuti, President of Confcommercio Pontedera. “Every incident that fosters degradation and insecurity must be eliminated. We need decisive measures; authorities and law enforcement must declare war on those who break the law and disrespect the rules. Moreover, the municipal administration must show a strong will to finally resolve the security problem that continues to plague the city. This has to be the top priority. What more needs to happen to persuade authorities and institutions to take serious action?”
